The Neurology Group of Bergen County Blanket Club

This year represented the Neurology Group of Bergen County's 8th year of participation in an Annual Blanket Club project. Led by Mary Hayden, Mary MacDevette, and Melanie Smith, the response of staff who worked to raise funds, make blankets and then distribute them was overwhelming. Since the project commenced in 2016, recipients of the blankets have included:

• The St. Joseph's Pediatric Cancer Center - Hackensack
• The Tomorrows Children Fund
• Eva's Village for the homeless
• Little Sisters of the Poor
• The pediatric unit at Valley Hospital
• The Straight and Narrow - a rehabilitation center
• Oasis - a shelter for abused women and their children
• The Valley Center for Breast Cancer
• The Bergen and Passaic Arc

This year, the Blanket Club beat its previous record of 30 blankets by distributing over 80 to the Thomas D. Egan VFW in Glen Rock, NJ, and the American Legion Hall in Pearl River, NY. Employees with family serving in the armed forces as well as healthcare professionals from outside of the practice also joined the project to make this year's success even more special.

We are very proud of the efforts of both our staff and the friends of Neurology Group. The positive response of our community has been uplifting and is best summarized by a "thank you" letter we received in an earlier year from one of the charities that received blankets. In a year where we started this project later than normal and accomplished more than ever before, "Start by doing what's necessary, then do what's possible, and suddenly you are doing the impossible."
